HOT DESERTS

WHAT IS A HOT DESERT?
- - A hot desert is a region that receives a very small
amount of rain or/and moisture and there is not enough water for many plants to
grow, and it is very difficult for humans, animals, or plants to survive here.
HOW DID THE WILDLIFE ADAPT TO LIVING IN THE HOT DESERT?
-The hot dessert makes it difficult for most animals to
survive, but there are a few
animals that have adapted to living in the harsh conditions of hot
deserts for example:
-Some animals have adapted by hiding in burrows throughout the daytime
when the temperatures are high and only come out at night when the temperatures
have dropped to hunt for food like scorpions and lizards.
-Some animals like the camel can control their body temperatures
to lose less water.
-Other animals have light-colored skin coats that help them to not built-up
throughout the day like dark-colored coats.
HOW DIT THE PLANT ADAPT TO LIVING IN THE HOT DESERT?
- -Having few to no leaves or foliage
that is hairy, waxy, or needle-shaped to minimize evaporation to keep the water
in the plant.
-Scrubs have long roots that help keep
them in place and help the scrubs to collect moisture from the air and groundwater through their long
roots.
-Trees and bigger plant
life is absent because of the lack of water needed to sustain larger plant life.
HOW HAVE PEOPLE ADAPTED TO LIVING IN THE HOT DESERT?
- Hot deserts have a
lack of water supply and the people living here must adapt by finding other
ways to get water.
-Move from one area to another in search of food and water.
- They live in tents that are cool and shady
keeping them cool in the daytime when the temperatures are high.
- They use camels to carry their
belongings across the desert.
- Some are hunter-gatherers meaning
they make a living through gathering and hunting for food.
-They get water by sucking water from underground
using reeds.
- some people like the Tuareg trade animals for rice,
sugar, tea, and salt when they get to the nearest town.
